The most commonly asked question I get on a daily basis is “How long will my eyelash extensions last? This a very good question however complicated. In short, there is no set time as to how long a person’s eyelash extensions will last. Especially if the client is a newbie.

AfterCare

These tiny delicate strands of hair are just like the hair on your head. They need to be taken care of, washed, dried, brushed and well-maintained. If proper maintenance is not done the adhesive that holds the extensions will break down and eventually those extensions will prematurely fall. Be aware of hot steamy showers, and any intense heat like standing over a pot of boiling water or a BBQ. Any oil-based products will cause the adhesive to break down. Lastly, rubbing pulling or picking will not only cause premature extension loss but permanent damage. This may seem like a long list but once you’ve had them on for a few weeks and you understand how to take care of them the maintenance becomes second nature.

Natural growth cycle

As mentioned above natural lashes are just like the hair on your head. Natural lashes fall out and new natural lashes will grow in their place. Each individual’s lash cycle is different. Some growth cycles are extremely fast and some are just as slow. Taking age into factor the older we get the slower the cycle however if you’re younger and you’re working out and taking supplements your natural lash growth cycle could potentially be a lot shorter. Pregnancy, breastfeeding and even menopause have an effect on the growth cycle. Typically we lose 25 percent of our natural lashes every two weeks pulse adhesive brake down from natural cases so getting a fill every 2 to 3 weeks would be great timing.

Some other factors

Some other factors come into play like adhesive. Depending on the adhesive being used some can last up to eight weeks some don’t last at all. The second is attachment. if the lash tech is not attaching properly this could have an effect on retention. The technician’s room temperature and humidity have a massive effect on retention too. Side note: If seeing massive loss the next morning this is a common sign of poor attachment protocols. Lastly, be very aware if your extensions are not falling out in 4 weeks and or they are hurting. This is not a good sign, your whole lash line may be stuck together. Some may feel they got the best deal of the century because their extensions never fall out. Remember, natural exfoliation of hair needs to take place. If not permanent damage will set in and natural lashes will never grow again.

In Conclusion

Needless to say, if you take care of your lash extensions and they are applied correctly with the use of proper guidelines and adhesive they should last about 2-3 weeks before needing a fill. At fill appointments, new lashes grow in and they get replaced with new extensions. Very similar to when you get your nails done. When finding a lash tech please do yourself a favour and don’t shop for a cheap lash tech but rather someone who is well-known, knowledgeable and well-educated!
